What’s in a name?

At Heart Strategy Impact, our mission is simple: to connect the three most critical elements in the nonprofit space—Heart, Strategy, and Impact.

Heart: Your Mission

First and foremost, it's essential to understand your mission and connect with passionate individuals or institutions who are already engaged with your organization.

  • Be Thoughtful: Spend time thinking and working through what you are trying to accomplish as a nonprofit organization.

  • Be intentional: Can your board members and staff recite your mission from heart? Or can they articulate how your mission is connected to the work and programming you are doing on a daily basis?

  • Learn from Others Motivations: The individuals who love you already are at the heart of your mission. Initiate conversations with them to understand how they came to love your work. Ask about their inspiration and continued motivation to figure out how you can channel that to others you are seeking to connect.

Strategy: How You Accomplish Your Goals

Once you understand your mission and you’ve connected with passionate individuals, it's time to strategize.

  • Assess your Needs: Take a step back and assess your organizational needs. Ground your thinking in your needs with a little focus on aspiration.

  • Understand the Market: where you operate, locally and nationally. Who are the peers you can learn from and who are the nonprofits leading the way in your sector where you can learn from.

  • Determine the effectiveness: of your tools and tactics. Does the fundraising event raise enough money to cover its cost? Are you leveraging the power of your board and their connections? Are you sending out membership renewal solicitations in enough time?

Impact: Making a Difference in the Community

Implementing a new strategy requires patience and a commitment to gradual growth and progress. As you cultivate relationships with stakeholders, donors, and the community, it's essential to remain intentional in your approach. While staying true to the principles and perspectives that have brought you this far, there are additional steps you can take to ensure the desired impact:

  • Measure Your Outcomes: Regularly assess the outcomes of your strategic initiatives to gauge their effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

  • Listen and Learn: Dedicate time to actively listen to and learn from your stakeholders. Their insights and feedback can provide valuable perspectives that enhance your strategic decision-making.

  • Refine Your Approach: Continuously refine your work within the context of your mission and strategy. Adaptation and refinement are essential for maintaining relevance and maximizing impact in an ever-evolving landscape.

You can apply this framework to various aspects of your fundraising and engagement work. Start by focusing on your heart—your mission. Then, develop a strategic plan to accomplish your goals, and finally, prioritize making a tangible impact in your community.

I challenge you to embrace this framework and think critically about how you can leverage Heart, Strategy, and Impact to drive success in your organization. Together, let's make a difference and create lasting change.
